Usually 2 different sizes are used.

Thinner for the settings and weavings (horizontals and verticals) and thicker for the crossings (diagonals).

Riempies are 5-6mm wide, approx  4-5mm thick, 1.5-2.5m long, averaging 2m. 

You will need 6-8m for a seat with 8-9 holes per side.

Raw Riempie

Better known as rawhide.Ideal for North American style canoe seats.

approx 2.5mm thick, in one or two continuous lengths                                        6mm wide
